Perlethorpe, September 2014 - Special Feature
As always, we displayed a large part of our huge WW2 Museum collection, including weaponry, uniforms and many items from the Home Front, including children’s toys, newspapers, currency, food containers, cutlery, and much more….
The event was jointly run with Warden Gary Richards (below, middle), head of the Environmental Centre…
Learning took place in many picturesque places around the huge estate - including a visit to an underground air-raid shelter.
These events take place at the historical venue of Perlethorpe, in the grounds of North Thorseby Hall, near Newark, Nottinghamshire.
Children from seven schools visited over the 5 days, taking part in role play as evacuees (right) as well as dressing up in period costume and interacting with some of our museum artefacts to aid their learning of this period in our history (below).
The children also got to ride in our army truck, en-route to the Queens Royal Lancers and Yeomanry Museum in the grounds, for drill practice with Private Avison.
..with support from Bomb Disposal expert, Sgt. Ralph Needham, of the Perlethorpe Home Guard.
