Reepham Primary School, 2014 - Special Feature
This is a picture special from the latest superb 2-day event, at the Reepham Primary School, Lincoln, November 2014.
The children were able to learn about WW2 surrounded by rare artefacts from the war era. Click any image to see the full picture gallery.
Many rare items were on display, including many items from the Lincolnshire Home Front. Children learnt about rationing - with a visual aid of exactly the quantity of meat, cheese and boiled sweets that would have been issued per person each week.
Children learned about the Home Guard and the military history relating to some of the weapons and other items in our collection. Children were able to wear some of the actual WW2 uniforms and helmets, getting a feel for their weight - giving just a glimpse into the uncomfortable life a soldier had during the war.
The staff and children were brilliant, giving us a hugely warm welcome and getting into the spirit of the event, with many dressing up in period costume. The children had a fantastic two days, even getting to experience our renowned and floor-shaking air-raid experience.
Children also got a close-up view of our army truck…
On day two of the event, we were proud to welcome representatives from the Royal British Legion, Barry (President of the Lincoln branch of the Royal British Legion), WW2 veterans Harry and ‘Bunny’, and the chairman, Alex.
